Pharmaceutical Marketing Supported by Deceitful Clinical Research

Medical Research

The business model for bringing lucrative new pharmaceutical drugs to market includes very robust marketing budgets, and 9 out of 10 pharmaceutical companies spend more on advertising than they do on research. And why not? Americans spend an average of $1000 per person, per year on pharmaceutical drugs, and the effort to capture these dollars is leading more companies to fast track or even fabricate the research involved in bringing a new drug to market.

Here’s a look at how much the largest pharmaceutical companies spent on marketing vs. expenditures on research and development in 2013:

The push to push drugs on the American people is heavily dependent on the ability to produce favorable research that backs any and all claims that marketing departments wish to make about the drug in order for it to stand out in the competitive field of retail drug sales. Thanks to the admissions of some of the most influential people in this industry, we are now discovering that much of the research being presented in support of many new drugs, vaccines and procedures is fake, and even leading medical journals are agreeing that big pharma manipulates medical research at the expense of public health.

Consider the following statements and admissions by very important people who are close enough to the inner workings of the industry to know for sure just how bad the public is being deceived.

In 2015, the editor of one of the world’s most respected medical journals, The Lancet, went public with his admission that research fraud was rampant in the field of medical clinical research:

Much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness.” – Dr. Richard Horton, editor of the world’s most respected medical journal, The Lancet

Furthermore, Dr. Marcia Angell, a physician and longtime Editor-in-Chief of the New England Medical Journal, which is also one of the most prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals in the world, shared a similar opinion:

“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as an editor of the New England Journal of Medicine.”Dr. Marcia Angell, a physician and longtime Editor-in-Chief of the New England Medical Journal

Public statements like these from some of the world’s most influential medical journals has not triggered any type of official investigation or regulatory response, proving that it is up to consumers to approach this industry with caution. Even cancer research is being exposed as manipulated, and several prominent physicians have come forth to express their concern that cancer organizations are producing cherry-picked research in order to make their medications or procedures seem like better, safer, and more viable options than they really are.

“Everyone should know that most cancer research is largely a fraud, and that the major cancer research organisations are derelict in their duties to the people who support them.” –Linus Pauling, Ph.D

20 year veteran of the National Cancer Institute and former journal editor, Dr. John Bailer spoke to the American Association for the Advancement of Science and stated:

“My overall assessment is that the national cancer program must be judged a qualified failure. Our whole cancer research in the past 20 years has been a total failure.” –Dr. John Bailer

The following clip is from the documentary ‘One More Girl,’ about the startlingly damaging effects of the Gardasil vaccine. In the clip, former Pfizer Vice President, Dr. Peter Rost candidly discusses the truth about the influence of money in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Rost wrote the book, The Whistleblower, Confessions of a Healthcare Hitman to contribute to the growing body of evidence that blows the whistle on corporate fraud within the medical establishment.

Dependence on so-called clinical research to support the claims made by pharmaceutical marketing departments is proving to be dangerously misled. Can the public trust the medical establishment to bring effective and safe medicines to market? Increasingly, the evidence is suggesting that it is not.

deceitful? just say LIES AND FRAUD!

As I am fairly certain this page has a large anti-VAX following:

    • frphx

I read the article and got the opposite impression. The safety of the vaccinations’ is in deed in doubt. That manufactures push profit over safety.

    • Rafael Espericueta

The anti-VAX movement isn’t one based on promoting misinformation to maximize profits, but based on real concerns. And all the fraudulent research that results from the profit-motive subverting the scientific search for truth doesn’t help! Indeed, it rather proves the point. Never trust research funded by advertising departments! Much drug research is just that, funded by advertising departments. Don’t trust Ferengi “science”, for profit will always trump truth.

      • D Thomas

Except, of course, for Wakefields primary research which is what initiated the whole anti-vax movement. That was totally profit motivated (it was funded by a concern that wanted to release single vaccines, so it had a profit motive for proving the the multiple MMR vaccine was dangerous)

But mostly I was talking about sample size. Statistics only really mean anything if the sample size is large, and the studies that show that the risk of not getting vaccinated outweighs the risk of vaccination usually have sample sizes several orders of magnitude larger than those that come to the opposite conclusion.

As to the profit motive question. There is a simple bit of research that anyone can do: Go to any of the popular anti-pharmaceutical friendly news sites that frequently (according to the scientifically literate) misrepresent the findings of scientific research. Natural News and Collective Evolution are good examples. Now count the adverts for products advertised as “healthy” alternatives to pharmaceuticals. Can you detect any motive for misrepresenting the scientific research?

      • D Thomas

If the antivax movement isn’t about profits could you please explain why sites that publish anti-evidence-based medicine articles (like NaturalNews) typically carry many many snakeoil adverts (snake oil being cures for which there is only anecdotal evidence) . Seriously go and count them. So very many.

  • When Big Money works a power agenda of regulatory and institutional capture, it becomes a network of key influence, not only to establish a protected ongoing revenue stream, but to shape the way we think. The conditioning we receive as our ‘education’, like the conditioning we receive from our mass media, is a skewed distortion.
It is said that the ‘devil’ is subtle, howbeit we are deceived, and a modern way of putting this is that hidden fear and guilt play a key role in setting up a surface diversionary persona, which is a manipulative attempt to deny and control Life. Being out of true with our Self – our Life – is a dissonance that feeds sickness on various levels, In significant way the manually allopathic interventions operate the persisting idea of power over Life – as if from a mentality outside and superior. Indeed the presumption is of a marketplace of the power to enable us to manage, persist and prevail over the feedback of due consequence that is not recognised as part of the whole – but as ‘evil’ or ‘enemy’ to eradicate.
‘War on Life’ is an absurd and self-defeating notion, yet fear and guilt – and corresponding rage and shame become exactly this.
Not only is it insane it is defending such insanity AS if it is Self or Life – and usurps the protection due to Life for its own parasitic influence. It really is within our thinking and feeling as a result of deeply conditioned beliefs by which we define who we are in relation and reaction to any and everything.
The problem is significantly that we do not recognize the problem – for it presents itself in ways that allow no healing – only ongoing management or struggle and loss.
Loss is deprivation, and this becomes a sense of disconnection from Life. Restoring a direct and tangible communion or connection within Life is key. This is not a conceptual matter. But what we conceive in our heart we give birth to at some level and if our heart is denied in favour of loveless strategies of the victim/victimizer dynamic, then that is what we ‘unconsciously’ conceive and give embodiment to.
Science or any other human endeavour, is only as trustworthy as the integrity of those who use it. The idea that systems or mechanism can be set up to relieve us of the responsibility for conscious attention is by definition subconscious conditioning (learning). But to be usurped by hidden agenda of manipulations that work through such conditioning is deceit. Housecleaning is in order. If it truly doesn’t belong to you – (align with the truth of who you feel and know yourself to be) – stop carrying it around or using it. Make room for a wholeness of purpose of a reintegrated being. This is a complete shift of perspective. Health is re-awakening to Felt Perspective from a distorted and denied version of existence.

  • PaulfromTexas

In 2014 I was cured of a disease I had endured for 43 yrs.
I took a total of 168 pills over 84 days.
The total tab , just for the meds, was over $151,000.
I am alive and carry a future now, where before I did not.
    Was it worth the costs?
I figure that’s some of my tax money coming back to me in some little fashion, after a lifetime of working.
But the price of the medicine, because it CURES something, not just treats symptoms, is excessive; and that is because the pharmas feel they need to make their money now, before everyone gets well.
Treating and curing polio taught the profession that cures cost them patients, and treatments make them money.
So now, it’s “Pay up or die.”

    • D Thomas

Only in America. If only your nation would accept a more socialist healthcare system this wouldn’t be the case. The pharmaceutical companies would still turn a profit, just not as much as before.

    • Rafael Espericueta

Pay or die, indeed. This is what happens when Ferengi are put in charge of our medical system. We need to completely remove the profit motive from health care, and replace it with the compassion motive. We’ll have a much better health care system, and at a much lower price.
