Civil Disobedience – Questioning the Laws We Take for Granted

“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.” ~Voltaire

There are many different types of addiction, but perhaps the worst type is an addiction to unquestioned laws passed down from our forefathers and blindly followed. This type of addiction is detrimental, as it affects the world negatively in so many ways. When laws go unquestioned, there is a tendency for the power behind the laws to become entrenched. There is the tendency for people to become ignorant, complacent and even apathetic to the ways in which power corrupts. When laws go unquestioned, those with the power to write laws can use the monopoly on power to force the majority into believing in laws that would, under scrutiny, be viewed as invalid, unhealthy, unsustainable and even immoral.

So what is a proactive citizen to do? First things first: we should question all laws, even the ones that we take for granted. We must ask ourselves, is this law valid? Does this man-made law agree with cosmic law and the natural order of things? Is this law healthy, especially in regard to progressive human evolution? Is this law just, especially in regard to the balance of power? Is this law sustainable, especially in regard to environmental health? Above all, we must ask ourselves if we have the courage it takes to become an outlaw when such laws aim to outlaw freedom.

  • Man-Made Laws

“All things are subject to interpretation; whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.” ~Fredrick Nietzsche

Power is a tricky concept. The human brain has the tendency to confuse power and truth, or at least, to confuse the dictates of power as being the truth even when they are not. Man-made laws, especially those laws grown uncouth through the passage of time, tend to be followed out of fear from the dictates of power rather than from the dictates of truth.

Man-made law, like mankind itself, is inherently fallible. The problem is the law-addicted brain tends to treat such laws as infallible, which has grave consequences in the real world. This is due, in no small part, to cultural conditioning and the civic brainwashing of the state. The state wants to maintain its power, even at the expense of truth. The misery of it all is that it has the power to create the illusion of truth, despite the actual truth, resulting in rampant corruption. As George Orwell said, “When a public is stressed and confused, a big lie told repeatedly and unchallenged can become accepted truth.”

Here’s the thing: if man-made laws are based upon truth, that is, based upon an interdependent reality governed by natural laws, then they will tend to be valid and just. If however, man-made laws are merely based upon the dictates of power, they will tend to be invalid and unjust, since power, especially a centralized power like the state, seeks only to maintain its own power, despite the interdependent cosmic truth of reality. Civic “truth” must always give way to cosmic truth lest we have corruption both civilly and cosmically. Man-made laws must remain the cart guided by the horse of cosmic law. The problem is, within our state-dependent culture, the cart is very much in front of the horse, and we are all paying the price for it.

    Cosmic Laws

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” -Unknown

It is the responsibility of us all to hold man-made law accountable to cosmic law. Each and every one of us must have the courage to at least attempt to put the horse of cosmic law back in front of the cart of man-made laws, especially regarding outdated laws. The very survival of the human race depends upon it.

Adherence to cosmic law is the foundation of a healthy human being as well as a healthy society. A society that bases its laws on the dictates of power is unlikely to become a healthy society; whereas a society that basis its laws on cosmic law is more likely to become a healthy society. Cosmic law is simply the way the universe actually works as opposed to the way we assume it works. Understanding it takes deep circumspection and the willingness to be skeptical in the face of blind certainty, especially when such fundamental laws as the non-aggression principal and the golden rule are being threatened by concentrated power.

If, as Joe Dispenza said, “where we put our awareness, and for how long, maps our destiny,” then our destiny as a species lives or dies on our ability to reason through the smoke and mirrors of man-made laws and hold them accountable to cosmic law. We must become aware of the ways in which laws are being used to control and oppress people. We must oppose such control and oppression by questioning man-made laws, especially outdated laws and especially-especially laws designed to extort money from the masses. As it stands, there are far too many money rackets set up in the so-called “justice system” that are siphoning money from the poor and fattening the pockets of the plutocrats at the top of an unsustainable chain of obedience.

As Robert B. Reich said, “the purpose of the economy is to provide everyone with opportunities to live full, happy and productive lives. Yet when most people come to view the economic game as rigged, this most basic purpose cannot be achieved. It becomes impossible to live happily in a society that seems fundamentally unfair, or to live well in a nation rife with anger and cynicism.” And when the justice system uses its laws to bolster the “rigged game” of the economy, it becomes a one-two punch to the belly of freedom, justice, truth, and to healthy, reasonable people everywhere.

At the end of the day, we have nobody to blame but ourselves for the fundamentally unhealthy, unsustainable, unjust and unfair system currently in place. We begin correcting it by realizing how often we take laws for granted, and how little we are willing to question man-made laws. Then we must have the courage to disobey, whether through civil disobedience or through non-violent revolution in solidarity for the common cause of leaving a healthier world for our children.

Something has got to give, and it begins with reconditioning the cultural conditioning and civic brainwashing that has led to our addiction to man-made laws. It’s as easy as admitting that man is fallible and therefore, so too are man-made laws.
