The Cults of Empire

Flickr - Money - zzzackSusan V. Ferguson, Contributor
Waking Times

In every Kali Yuga throughout endless Cycles of Time, tyrants have sought to dominate the world — and failed. They will fail again. According to author Charles R. Morris, in December of 2007, the chairman of the Federal Reserve in the United States, Ben Bernanke began the experimental practice of exchanging illiquid assets that were weighing down bank balance sheets for safe-haven U.S. Treasuries. These illiquid assets, which normally cannot be sold or exchanged without a substantial loss, are called CDOs, collateralized debt obligations. Foreign governments and pension funds have long perceived U.S. Treasuries as stable safe trusted investments.

Thus began the unraveling of the world economy. This ‘experiment’ was based on the current cult of financial ideology, the Chicago school of economics, a brand of financial capitalism. This economic ‘experiment’ is now failing. Depressions are cyclical. Over the next two years the world will be thrown into deep depression — and wipe out the wealth and savings of millions who never heard of CDOs and know nothing of financial cult ideologies.

When the American people begin to fully realize, as many now are, how their life savings, the security and safety of their families, and their future have been gambled away and squandered by the fanatical arrogance of an elite effectively cut off from the everyday real struggles of ordinary lives, there will be terrible and as yet unknown, perhaps violent consequences. I suggest that the elite fears public reaction — and the bizarre attempts to monitor and control any and all communications are symptomatic of their fears. They are afraid.

No one wants chaos.

No one wants to be pushed to violence. In the despair of utter helplessness, the idea of revolution may stir the blood and call brave hearts to action, but the consequences can be catastrophic. Civil wars are heinous in this regard as the absence of law brings out the worst in humanity. Historical accounts offer evidence of rampant atrocities committed during and in the name of such movements. The innocent, young and old, suffer.

As world governments have grown, the common people have been left behind, shut out of any possible responsible participation in our own destinies. In despair people have turned to conspiracy cults that offer explanations, participation and community. Developing alternative ways to live beyond consumerism, the new age, channels (the modern oracles), and conspiracies give the disenfranchised and disconnected the sense of belonging we all need.

Many of these groups are positive, creative, and have born constructive ideas based on sound research. We need new thinking, new ways to understand disease, our relationship with Nature, and consciousness. However there are numerous cults that are simply taking advantage of a large group of people who feel totally alienated from the leaders they once trusted. The disenchanted and lonely make easy pickings for carnival sharks.

I believe that many of these cult groups began in absolute sincerity. Like all of us, they were seeking answers. Their initial efforts were of real value to many, or they would not have succeeded in attracting followers. But success carries its own seeds of decay. The pressure on even the best of leaders to keep their followers interested may encourage them to produce the more and more bizarre and titillating, to the point of absurdity. The followers and closest disciples can and do corrupt their teachers and gurus. Stars are ‘owned’ by their fans.

The End of an Empire

We are living in the end of another Kali Yuga empire. Cults also flourished as the cracks began to appear in the Roman Empire. A plethora of alternative religious cults and practices found popularity with those who felt powerless, not only slaves, but also the wives of aristocrats.

“…the anguish, the general insecurity and feeling of precariousness which silently undermined the Roman world supplied further ammunition to the mystery religions (Dionysian cults), which while tightening the solidarity of the sect’s members, guaranteed them the firm hope of divine protection in this world and the next.” [The Cults of the Roman Empire, by Robert Turcan]

We have often been told that all empires are alike and the American Empire has been compared to the Roman Empire. “Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it (George Santayana).” As we stand on the precipice of world collapse, are we really any different? As we have lost faith in our cultural traditions and religions, have we not turned to questionable sources?

“When the condition of a citizen…lost a large part of its importance, the individual sought another status…by way of his integration…members of ‘diaspora’ create new bonds for themselves in another place another way… Where the individual no longer plays an active, direct and personal part in the running of the city, he inevitably loses interest and seeks responsibilities elsewhere, in other solidarities, other ‘fraternities’…assure him a kind of reintegration and existence, when traditional frameworks and institutional authorities are in decline or failing in their mission.” [The Cults of the Roman Empires]

I suggest that our ruling elites have been happy to keep us, the common herd distracted in rubbish conspiracy cults and new age channelings, just as the Roman aristocracy was pleased to keep their populace distracted in various religious cults. The Praetorian Guard didn’t have the media, TV, and the Internet to use as a control mechanism.

Financial Cults

Our institutional authorities have not only failed us, they have disregarded us as human beings and betrayed our trust. In arcane secrecy, their cults of financial ideologies have eviscerated the middle class and destroyed our beloved democracy. Jim Rogers, Marc Faber and many others have warned again and again that this ‘experiment’ will end in suffering and tragedy. The collapse of the USD as the world currency can occur slowly, perhaps over the next two years as James Rickards suggests. But no one knows.

What we do know is that the massive tsunami of printed money issued as quantitative easing (QE) by the Federal Reserve has placed the very safety and sovereignty of America at risk — and left people around the world vulnerable. When banks fail and we see breadlines, the majority of Americans will begin to understand how we have been robbed, that “the greatest transference of wealth in the history of mankind” has taken place in the guise of the fanatical beliefs of an elitist financial ideological cult. The consequences will be terrifying.

The external world is a perfect reflection of our inner consciousness. What is needed is a change in consciousness. Yes, it is time to clean house, to examine the political and moral corruption that has overwhelmed us. Yet we must be very careful to act in considered, accurately informed, intelligent wisdom — lest in the process of liberating ourselves from these sociopathic thieving narcissists, we become the enemy. A recent example of a productive alternative is the march against secret government surveillance by thousands of activists. Legal courts have condemned J. P. Morgan and fined them billions of dollars. These are better approaches.

Those who have gained in wisdom will find that Wisdom-Knowledge is now more than ever, a crucial necessity. Ill-considered violence is not of value, and perhaps not even a lasting solution to the greed paradigm. We may ask what are the real motives behind those who are encouraging such acts? Do we really want to unleash dangerously destructive energies with the potential for unpredictable unforeseen consequences? Remember the sober conclusion of the French Revolution in the 1790s: “The Revolution eats its own!” The choice is up to us. Only we are responsible for the future.

Waiting for a change in our Consciousness

Consider the idea that the off-world beings that did in fact colonize our little planet are simply waiting, observing us, hoping that we will move into maturity — and take responsibility for our own actions as individuals, participate with Wisdom & Knowledge in our governments and in the care & protection of planet Earth herself, our Mother.

Perhaps these off-world beings, of which there appear to be countless numbers of multiple races, are indeed hoping that one day soon, we earthlings will come to the realization that we don’t need tyranny in any form, and that we are capable of assuming an intelligent informed participation in our future.

Indeed they watch, hoping that one day we will lose our childlike interest in ever more bizarre fear-loaded tales, which render us useless. Could it just be that what the ETs are waiting and hoping for is for us, earth humans to grow up? Because unless we demonstrate that we have become responsible adults here on Earth, we cannot and will not be allowed to join and participate in the larger Universe.

Enlightenment is not escapism. Enlightened beings naturally develop compassion and engage in activities that contribute to the well-being of the world.

    Hi Susan,

Thank you for another very interesting article.

Yes, there are some ‘swivel-eyed nutters’ out there…

Many of the known conspiracy sites function as ‘starter packages’ for the newly awakening looking for answers. Most of us have begun our spiritual journey with the shock that our world is not what it seems, so we try to learn about what is beneath the veil of ‘cosy’ western democracy and look for the leaders we resonate with to fix it for us. The Alex Jones site is a classic example.

Then most of us move on as we realize the inner journey of the heart is the most important. “Wherever you go there you are.” We are all at different stages of our development and some get left behind in the shock, fear and anger and there will always be the parasites that move in on these sites to fatten them and feed off them.

I agree with much of what you have said here, but not necessarily your proffered solutions. I say this with the greatest of respect, I think your article is a little unnuanced at times.

We need to approach the subject of ‘conspiracy’ and ‘democracy’ with deftness, lest the debate supports a growing movement by the establishment to restrict any questioning of powerful governing institutions under the brand of “Conspiracy Theorists”.

You wrote: “I suggest that the elite fears public reaction”. Agreed

You wrote: “Civil wars are heinous in this regard as the absence of law brings out the worst in humanity.”

Civil wars have been historically bloody to be sure, Does the absence of law bring out the worst in humanity? I assume you mean Canon/Roman law and its evolution to Statute Law. I suggest you look at the ancient Irish Brehon societies. These were Druid led communities that were self-governing and required no enforcement authorities. Of course, they were smashed by the invading English as a direct threat to English Laws which have enslaved the Irish ever since.

I think you draw a narrow definition of Revolution as a bloody and violent movement. What about the quiet revolution of the heart? Is not the awakening to the song of the heart and the questioning of who we are and our place in the world/existence what Governments fear the most? They know how to deal with bloody revolution, but peaceful non-compliance and self-awareness is their real challenge. Their answer is to re-frame the awakening and questioning by branding us all conspiracy theorists and monitoring us to find out who we are.

You wrote: “…participate with Wisdom & Knowledge in our governments and in the care & protection of planet Earth herself, our Mother.”

Well, yes and no – your solution (participate with Wisdom and knowledge, protection of the planet), is predicated on the assumption that the current structures are OUR Government. I don’t believe this to be true.

Government and Democracy, (in the original sense of the word) are not the same.

    Om Shanti

Another nice one from Susan Ferguson. She makes a skipable article both readable and interesting.

I’m wondering these days if David Icke, a long time inspiration, isn’t being corrupted by his followers? The greatest gurus historically all experience a period in their lives when they withdraw, disappear, go into long term retreat. You don’t get this from the noisy ones these days, including the actor “His Holiness The Dalai Lama”.

On the issue of the billion dollar fines levied vs. banks by our fearless yet complicit judicial system, where do they get the money to pay them? They steal it or print it is the answer, since they produce absolutely nothing of any material value. In fact, part of the fines are brazenly paid out of their depositors’ and investors’ funds. Now, if the courts would order the executives and their minions to contribute, say, 30 years of labor at a stone quarry or in a factory, that would indeed be a fine. Otherwise this existing financial justice is for show and an appeasement to the sheeple.

    • delphinius says:

David Icke has linked to this article.

      • Interesting.
I felt these were things that needed to be said.
        Perhaps David did too.
I met him many years ago.

        Thank you!

        • delphinius says:

Susan – David obviously felt your article would be of value to his readers, but it is by no means certain he agrees with all or part of your argument on Conspiracy Theorists. I suspect the latter, as your article does have some interesting information on the power elite and the enslavement of the people though financial cults.

I say this only because, in addition to linking to your article today, he has also linked to an article presenting the contrary perspective, that challengers to Government and seekers of Truth are being framed as Conspiracy Theorists and enemies of the State:

“Now, with all the above, do you see how a handful of Leverhulme funded pea-brain academics spend millions of dollars to paint those who challenge imperial governments’ misinformation as conspiracy theorists who present a great threat to democracy?”

Article headline: Conspiracy Theorists Are the Greatest Challenge to Democracy … According to … Here’s who … Have you ever come across an imperialist who was keen on activists challenging the establishment?

          http://www.boilingfrogspost.com/2013/10/29/conspiracy-theorists-are-the-greatest-challenge-to-democracy-according-to-heres-who/

I saw David’s last marathon 9 hour Wembley presentation and I don’t think he would condone fear and anger based movements either, but he certainly did not advocate working and voting within the current structures of Government as a form of enlightenment!!

The UK Government has already passed legislation to restrict access to websites containing “esoteric knowledge”, effective from January 2013. There is a Gagging bill going through Parliament to stop popular people’s organizations outside of the main political parties from having a voice during an election year. Today the Queen sealed a Royal charter to restrict Press Freedoms for the first time in over 300 years.

All done in the name of democracy.

On other threads and within other articles you have advocated arguments which would easily fit the criteria of Conspiracy Theories. I would really like to better understand your lines of demarcation on this issue.

There are already vested interests funding this debate and so we must tread lightly.

          D :)

David Icke has hardly been ‘corrupted’ by his followers. He is currently working with many like minds to bring a new internet channel, ‘The People’s Voice’, into the world. If he was some sort of self-satisfied guru, basking in adulation, he might well be inclined to take himself off on a long retreat. He could certainly do with a break, but so could the hard-pressed and downtrodden people of the world for whom he works tirelessly to uncover the truth about whence comes their oppression. Knowledge is power, and when we know what we are up against we can start to do something about it. BTW, David’s latest newsletter deals with the global financial situation – well worth reading, and easy to understand for those (like me) who aren’t very well up on the ‘Kali Yuga’ etc.

“I suggest that our ruling elites have been happy to keep us, the common herd distracted in rubbish conspiracy cults and new age changelings” Its those Et’s that are waiting for us to change that are also sending information to channels so we can progress a little further with some wise words.

So I don’t really know what angle you are coming from? It seems you are a little confused, also you are using fear porn in your thread with words like….
“The consequences will be terrifying.” Terrifying for whom? You?
    Cause I’m not scared.

Remember the teachings from the wise ones..no fear. There is delusion and confusion in this post , stuff that’s already been said a thousand times and always with no hint of a solution…That solution is…Go within,Find yourself, lose all your fears, open your heart and trust that everything is in divine order and as it should be. We mortal humans really have no idea of the grand picture and how all this teaches us to grow.

People keep forgetting that everything is fine, that includes all the negative things, its just how we look at it. In a world of contrast, we see the things we don’t want and strive towards growth of the soul, no contrast no growth. The world will always have problems and we should accept that, that’s how we learn. One day we may learn that pain is not the way to learn, but for now and probably long into the future, the only way us humans are going to get it is by pain and negativity, shame but true. Namaste

  4. Another fascinating aspect to the idea of conspiracy as cult is the fact that Neptune was in Scorpio from 1956 through 1970. Neptune rules deception, illusions and delusion, and Scorpio is the sign of secrecy. So you find an obsession with and love for delusional secrets, aka conspiracy theories. This influence was felt from 1956-70 and the generation born with that planetary configuration carry it with them their entire lives.

Scorpio loves the power that secrecy brings and tends to be too critical, skeptical and can become destructively sarcastic. This is also the generation obsessed with vampires and other uncertain vague phenomena. In 1970 Neptune moved into Sagittarius and thus produced an entire generation of freedom loving philosophers obsessed with getting at the truth. So it goes. We are all rather like the latest batches of cookies with varying flavors.

Whether you accept astrology as real or not, it remains the most accurate way to describe large generational patterns (via the outer planets) of human behavior world wide. We are now in the beginnings of Neptune (illusion/delusion) in its own sign Pisces (illusion/delusion). This planetary configuration often brings about revolutions. Neptune can also bring illumination and thus 2012-2025 can be a very spiritual period, or it may produce even more cults and has the potential for delusion on a grand scale. Things are never what they seem to be.

    As one astrologer puts it:

“With Neptune moving into Pisces, there is the potential for tremendous spiritual transformation, but also mass delusion such as has never been seen before. Things are never what they ‘appear’ to be.”

  6. And how Texas got rid of their own “vampire squid” after the Civil War….

The 1869 gubernatorial election was one of the most turbulent and controversial in Texas history. Favoritism by the military for candidate Davis over A.J. Hamilton caused Governor E.M. Pease to resign September 30. General J.J. Reynolds ordered the drawing up of a new voter registration list, eliminating many of those who had qualified in 1867.

Troops stationed at the polls probably prevented many Democrats from voting: only about half of the registered white voters actually cast a ballot, and many polling places were either not opened, or ordered closed. Irregularities were reported but never investigated, and official returns reported that Davis won by slightly more than 800 votes.

Appointed provisional governor on January 8, 1870 (about five weeks after the election and before the official outcome had been confirmed), E. J. Davis began a four-year term and was inaugurated on April 28, 1870.

After the state legislature ratified the 14th and 15th Amendments, the civilian rule of the state officially replaced the military rule on March 30, 1870. The Constitution of 1869 had given the governor power to appoint more than 9,000 offices, impinging on the independence of local government and the will of the people.

A taxpayers’ convention met in September 1871, chaired by E.M. Pease, to protest high taxes, needless expenditures, and the legislature’s cancellation of that year’s regular elections. A special election was held in October, with Democratic victories for seats to the U.S. Congress. Democrats won a majority in the state legislature the next year, despite the presence of the state police at polling places.

The legislature nearly impeached Governor Davis in 1873. The Texas Supreme Court in Ex Parte Rodriquez(the “semi-colon case” of December 1873) invalidated the election of 1873 in which Richard Coke had defeated Davis.

Texans ignored this decision, and President U.S. Grant refused to intervene on Davis’ behalf. Davis did not intend to leave office until April 1874, but he did so reluctantly in January, officially marking the end of Reconstruction in Texas. Davis was defeated in the 1880 gubernatorial race, and again in the 1882 congressional race. He died in Austin on February 7, 1883.

  8. The True Believer:
Thoughts On The Nature Of Mass Movements
1951 by American writer Eric Hoffer that discusses the psychological causes of fanaticism.

    excerpt:

Mass movements begin with “men of words” or “fault-finding intellectuals” such as clergy, journalists, academics, and students who condemn the established social order (e.g., Gandhi, Trotsky, Mohammed, Lenin).

These men of words feel unjustly excluded from, or mocked and oppressed by, the existing powers in society, and relentlessly criticize or denigrate present-day institutions. While invariably speaking out in the name of disadvantaged commoners, the man of words is actually motivated by a deep personal grievance.

The man of words relentlessly attempts to “discredit the prevailing creeds” and creates a “hunger for faith” which is then fed by “doctrines and slogans of the new faith”. A cadre of devotees gradually develops around the man of words, leading to the next stage in a mass movement.

Eventually, the fanatic takes over leadership of the mass movement from the man of words. While the “creative man of words” finds satisfaction is his literature, philosophy or art, the “noncreative man of words” feels unrecognized or stifled and thus veers into an extremism against the social order.

Though the man of words and the fanatic share a discontent with the world, the fanatic is distinguished by his viciousness and urge to destroy. The fanatic feels fulfilled only in a perpetual struggle for power and change.

    Hi Susan,

I was wondering if you could explain the sea change in your articles, the last couple left me baffled to be honest.

Why are you essentially advising that we get involved with government, go on march’s, support non existent democracy and vote?. You know, all the things that over the last 50 years have proven to not change a thing for the better?. Quite the opposite in fact.

The Sanskrit texts describe in detail the kind of craven men and women that infest these various institutions at this time, not to mention our own eyes, people who will never relinquish the power and wealth they have stolen. Not unless forced to (though not necessarily by violence).

And I might add people who have made themselves above the law and created a CLOSED crony system that only themselves, their sycophants and their corporate interests can enter in any meaningful way and exploit.

You have stated quite clearly on many occasions that this current venal system of the few living large off the many is an utterly corrupt system that one way or another is going to crumble. And you were quite correct.

Why are you now suggesting we support and increase the longevity of a structure that needs to die as soon as possible?.

    • V. Susan Ferguson says:

      zx83b,
I have not changed my views. I have tried to counsel against unwise violence and give a wider perspective of what is occurring based on historical precedents. I have observed that these kind of events are indeed cyclical. Structures that are built in fear inevitably and eventually collapse under their own weight.

Both David Icke and Rense linked to this [my] article, so they must have felt what I said was worth something – or perhaps they didn’t read all of it. What good has 25 years of conspiracy theories accomplished, but alienated millions from a more useful, less fearful understanding and any real active participation.

    New from James Rickards:
“The world is getting closer to that end game every day,” says Rickards, who just finished writing the sequel to his bestselling Currency Wars.

“Various government agencies and private think tanks and corporations have continued to do war game type simulations of financial warfare and attacks on capital markets systems since the Pentagon financial war game in 2009. I have been an advisor to and a participant in many of these subsequent efforts. However, these national security community and private simulations have had very little impact on policy as pursued by the U.S. Treasury and the Federal Reserve. Agencies such as the Defense Department and the intelligence community are concerned about the future stability of the dollar, but the U.S. Treasury is far less concerned. This has created some tension between those who see the danger and cannot do much about it, and those who can affect dollar policy but do not see the danger.”

      Susan,

The issue is not that you’ve said there are NO conspiracies, its that you have blanket condemned “Conspiracy Theorists”, as a group, without any terms of reference or specificity. And you have done this at a time when the Western Governments are making a well funded and orchestrated move to paint challengers to official State positions as lunatics, the mentally ill, anarchists and terrorists under the umbrella phrase, “Conspiracy Theorists.”

You claim we should not support tyranny and yet you’re solution is for us all to participate in this system of government that has tyranny woven into the very fabric of its institutions.

Your article is so unnuanced as to be irresponsible. I have asked you in genuine interest, where your lines of demarcation are and you have been unresponsive, (which is surprising), as if you are not prepared to defend your own article.

I have some sympathy with zx83b here. There does appear to be a palpable sea change in your responses to posters and I am bound to say that replying to zx, (a poster who has shown you nothing but interest and respect),with, ‘well Icke and Rense seemed to like it!!’ is really not worthy of your much admired earlier posts.

As someone who has had many engaging and positive exchanges with you in recent months, I find myself wondering if all is well?…

      • Since you persist…
You have completely misunderstood me and reacted in fear, as if I was attacking you. Even in my last article you have even accused me of changing subject, not being my usual “spiritual” self – and of being ‘abducted’, which I found condescending and insulting. A bit like Larry P! I’m not allowed by you to discuss money? God is not also the financial system? We are to ignore this aspect of bondage in the Kali Yuga? Ridiculous!

What I have seen from you is the classic cult defensive reaction to any other perspective than their own. You have been effectively entrained in reactive mind and trigger words can be taken out of context and set you off in defensiveness – so that people like that slime comedian can control you and lead you into trouble.

I have no need to defend myself to you. You might ask yourself why you so easily turned on me – when both Icke & Rense linked to this story. Even they must be worried about their followers!

        Only Charles Schiavo has understood:
        October 31, 2013 at 5:18 pm

“I really appreciate your way of seeing what is going on here, I had finally started to get past all this negative spinning everything that goes on in the world. Sure like you mention wealth and the way it is distributed, earned, loaned etc is broken but

“…the way that people continue to drivel more and more insane beliefs so that the people who get the short stick feel empowered by some knowledge of events and people they do not know and will never know is astounding.

“In the end its the leaders who promote Love and equality that are killed and not the ones who come up with ever more fear based and fanatical beliefs for their followers. I like many enjoy a good conspiracy theory but finally am coming out of the darkness to realize that your either part of the problem or the solution and its that simple.”

        I’m done!

        • delphinius says:

          Susan,

Thank you for finally doing me the courtesy of responding. As you say, you’re ‘done’, so I don’t expect a response to this post unless of course, you want to… Waking Times is a community of diverse people and ideas, so lets have some respect for that.

Firstly, I have NOT attacked you personally, or turned on you, far from it, I have challenged some, not all, of your ideas and I have done so with a friendly tone and PLENTY of caveats that I remain an admirer of your work.

No-one will read my posts as fear-based. I am consistently seeking clarification on your article.

You said “I’m not allowed by you to discuss money? God is not also the financial system? We are to ignore this aspect of bondage in the Kali Yuga? Ridiculous!”

These are your words not mine, Susan. I want to have the debate, and my first post makes it clear I agree with you on the financial systems. I have put a cogent, evidence based counter-argument and asked for your input and none was forthcoming.

You said: “What I have seen from you is the classic cult defensive reaction to any other perspective than their own. You have been effectively entrained in reactive mind and trigger words…”

Really, I’m the one having a defensive reaction? I have quite a few contributory posts on this site and I hardly think my position has ever been a cult-like entrained defense!!!

And no, you absolutely don’t have to defend yourself to me or anyone else. A point I have made on your behalf a few times now – as you know. But I’m not asking you to defend yourself, I am asking you to clarify your arguments which you appear not to want to do, which is a great shame because there is an important debate to be had here.

An Indian Master once told me, “In quarrels with friends, if their harsh words pass right through you, then know that these words are their fears and respond with compassion. If the words stick, then know that they are your fears.”

I am responding with compassion and I wish you well.

          Om Shanti

Where the Warrior Comes In: Authenticity vs. Manipulation

Ida Lawrence, Contributor Waking Times At this moment in time, as we stand on the precipice of devolution or evolution, what does ‘pay attention’ mean to us? Our hearts seek wisdom and courage, and the justified faith that attention can bring. We came into this, so is attention the price of being born… an obligation? […]

Inducing Higher Intelligence and Heightened Senses with Gamma Brain Waves

Anna Hunt, Staff Writer Waking Times Brainwave entrainment is a way to train the brain to synchronize to a certain frequency, such as gamma, beta, delta, theta and alpha. Each frequency matches a certain state of consciousness. For example, delta is the brainwave dominant while in an unconscious state such as sleeping; while theta and […]
